Hidden Gem Playgrounds

Missoula hidden gem playground

Missoula has an abundance of beautiful playgrounds and parks. Everyone knows about Bonner, Silver Summit and Fort Missoula, but here of a few of our favorite neighborhood parks that might have slipped your mind.

Memorial Rose Garden: In 2019, our community came together and re-placed and re-designed the aging playground equipment at the corner of Blaine and E Franklin. The space is so much more fun, usable and accessible for multiple ages!

Pineview Park: For those who live in the Rattlesnake, this park is a popular stomping ground. But others don’t even know it exists! Tucked behind Rattlesnake Elementary at the end of Pineview Drive, this great park is away from busy streets, has a covered patio area with picnic tables, and a playground suitable for all ages. They even have tennis courts!

Lafray Park: Known to most kids as “The Dinosaur Park” it is sure to be on everyone’s list of favorite parks. Although a lot of the playground equipment is best for ages 3 and up, this park truly is one of Missoula’s best kept secrets. It is rarely busy and located at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac. The street is easy to miss, but watch for Lafray Lane off of River Road. This park also features a covered patio area with picnic tables and a port-a-potty (hey, its better than nothing!)

McLeod Park: Located on the corner of West Kent and Washburn (just off of North Ave W), McLeod has newer playground equipment and is very centrally located. We love this park for the mature trees that provide shade on sunny days and structures for all ages.

Jefferson School: Just a hop skip and jump from McLeod Park, this is one of our favorite spots to bring younger kids. Located near the corner of Catlin Street and Central Ave, this playground is used by Jefferson Preschool students during the day. But after school and on the weekends it is the perfect spot to play. The playground equipment is suitable for even toddlers and preschoolers, the entire area is fenced, and there is even an adorable little log cabin.

Lester Park: Now hear us out. This park may not have a fancy zip line or climbing gym, but it is the cutest and quietest neighborhood park around. Located on the corner of Lester & Agnes in the Lewis & Clark neighborhood, this park has a simple slide and some swings. It reminds us of our own childhood playgrounds and is a great place to enjoy a picnic lunch with your kids.
