February is here and we could all use a little more love and joy in our lives. Luckily there are plenty of events to love around town leading up to Valentine’s Day!

Wednesday, February 2:

10:00AM Science Sprouts: Bones are Beautiful at SpectrUM Discovery

  • Join spectrUM for preschool science activities and story time every Wednesday from 10am to 11am. This week's theme is Bones Are Beautiful. No registration required.
    The spectrUM Discovery Area is open for visitors of all ages to explore science through engaging exhibits and activities. spectrUM has moved into the Missoula Public Library and offers free admission for all, please join us at 455 East Main Street

10:15AM Family Fun Time at Mismo

  • This is a one-hour open gym time for kids walking to 12 years of age. You and your child will get to explore our facility in a supervised atmosphere. Come play in our gym, which features foam pits, trampolines, obstacle courses and so much more. Preregistration on our website is necessary to participate each day.

1:00PM Online Bug Encounters: Wolf Spiders

  • Some of the largest spiders encountered in Montana reside in the family Lycosidae, the Wolf Spiders. Aptly named, these spiders are adapted for the chase and have no need for a web. Get to know this mobile group and meet our latest arrivals!

2:00PM Hands On Science: Dinosaurs and Fossils at SpectrUM Discovery

  • Join spectrUM for guided science activities at our Discovery Bench from 2 to 6 Tuesday through Saturday. This week's theme is dinosaurs and fossils. No registration required.

7:30PM Missoula County All Schools Poetry Slam & Open Mic at the ZACC

  • Calling all Missoula County High School students who like cool words, and any adults who want to come support and cheer for them! This totally free All Schools Poetry Slam & Open Mic will feature students performing their own original work, hosted by Sentinel High School Kopee Staff.
    If you’re a student who would like to participate, please enter by emailing your name, grade, and school to sentinelkopee@gmail.com by 5 PM on Monday, February 1. Read more here.

Thursday, February 4:

10:00AM Tiny Tales at the Missoula Public Library

  • Tiny Tales uses sounds, rhythms, and movement to help your child learn to read! Participants will sing songs, learn finger-plays and nursery rhymes, and hear stories. Tiny Tales will be recorded and posted online at a later date on the library’s official website and YouTube channel. Tiny Tales is presented by various Youth Services staff every Thursday and Friday at 10:30 AM in the Level Two Imaginarium.

3:00PM Once Upon A Symphony

  • Join the Missoula Symphony Orchestra for a musical adventure through the Library! Embark on a journey full of sights, sounds, and hands-on activities. Follow a violin as it swims like a fish in the Clark Fork River, hear a trumpet play a majestic fanfare at a castle, and more! Best of all, meet the composer of this year’s MSO Youth & Family concert, James Stephenson, as he shows children how music can tell a story. This program is sponsored by the Library Foundation and is being held in the Imaginarium on Level Two. Feb 3, 3:00-4:00 PM

4:00PM Kids Cooking- Heart Healthy Treats

  • Families First will be presenting Kid's Cooking Heart Healthy Treats on the 3rd floor cooking area in the Missoula Public Library from 4-5pm

Friday, February 4:

10:30AM Preschool Playtime at Roots Acro Sports

  • Preschool Playtime is a favorite for kids and parents alike. For playtime, our gym becomes your playground. We set up fun stations and activities throughout the gym. Parents and children choose the activities that interest them most, including obstacle courses, pit games, trampoline time, swinging, sliding, and climbing. Every time you come it's a new fitness adventure. $10 per child/ $15 for Siblings Punch Card: $50 (for $60 in Punches)

4:00PM Teddy Bear Sleepover at the Missoula Public Library

  • Along with the Missoula Public Library, Families First will be participating in the annual Teddy Bear Sleepover! Kids can bring their fluffy best friend to the library for a special Story Time on Friday at 4pm. We will have a Families First Learning Lab exhibit and an easy craft. If desired, the kids can leave their friend overnight and pick them up in the morning, 9-11am. During pickup on Saturday the 5th, kids can enjoy a slideshow of all their sleepover shenanigans and enjoy FREE ice cream for breakfast with Families First! We hope to see you and your teddy's there!

5:00PM Be My Valentine First Friday Arts and Crafts Show at Monks

  • Have a drink at Monk's Bar and get a unique Valentine's Day gift for someone!
    Free family-friendly 5pm-8pm

Saturday, February 5:

9:00AM-11:00AM Ice Cream for Breakfast at Families First Learning Lab

  • 'I scream, you scream, we all scream for Ice Cream!' Join us Saturday morning from 9-11am for a special treat with Families First and the Missoula Public Library! Pick up your teddy from the MPL Teddy Bear Sleepover & celebrate National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day! A $5 donation is suggested to support fun events like this, we can't wait to see you and your fuzzy friends there.

10:00AM Parent-Child Build Your Own Birdhouse

  • Using repurposed materials such as boards, pallets, and nails, you and your child (10+) years, will work together to create a one-of-a-kind birdhouse. The class will cover shop basics including safety, and you will leave with your own DIY project, just in time for spring! With locally sourced materials provided, courtesy of Home Resource, all you need to bring is a creative mind! One child per adult.

1:00PM Stop Animation for Kids by MCAT

  • Kids learn computers, animation and cooperation at this free two hour art activity offered every Saturday at MCAT's studios, located in the new Missoula Public Library.

6:00PM 10th Annual Fire on Ice Hockey Night

  • 10th Annual Fire on Ice Charity Hockey Competition. Missoula Fire Department Local 271 vs. Wildlanders. Also playing will be the 7th Annual Urban Interface-Off. Wildlanders vs. MFD Bobearos
