Nonprofit Supports Moms in Need

people enjoy living in Missoula and the reasons why are endless: access to the outdoors, the eclectic community, and most importantly because it’s a great place to raise a family. It takes a village to raise a child and the Missoula community provides a wealth of resources to be that village. Throughout the year, 406 Families Missoula will feature local nonprofits that dedicate their time to serving Missoula’s children and families. We’ll share all the ways they’re working to empower our community and ways you can get involved.

Parenting can be hard work but organizations like Mountain Home Montana offer an array of services to support and empower mothers and help their children thrive. While their primary service has been housing for young mothers, they have expanded to include wraparound care such as mental health, education, and employment support.

This year, Mountain Home Montana is celebrating 20 years supporting mothers in the Missoula community. Kelly Driscoll, Mountain Home Montana board member, shared some valuable insight with us about the program. Kelly joined Mountain Home’s board of directors because she believes the organization “empowers moms, helps create stronger families, and changes lives two generations at a time.”

Briana, a young mom who is currently utilizing Mountain Home’s services, has been able to maintain two jobs and attend college. “Mountain Home provides so much more than just housing — they help moms finish school and find employment'; they help families heal past trauma and create a powerful path forward; they provide residential programing and drop-in childcare for clients; and they provide critical housing services that help moms and children stay together,” Driscoll shared with us.

The support Mountain Home Montana provides has empowered moms like Sadie, a single mother, whose story was featured in the New York Times. With the support from Mountain Home, Sadie was able to have safe housing and childcare for her three children so she could work in the evenings and work towards her goal of attending college.
